“She oohed and aahed when she saw of the Ocean Park Bathhouse…”
What do I love about my work? Every client is different. Every client has a different learning style. My job is to find the best way to teach them.
I was working with a woman for several weeks when she told me she received an email from her doctor with an attachment. She asked me to teach her how to download and print it.
She’s a hands-on learner and repetition is key so I knew I wanted her to go through the process several times. But downloading several doctor’s reports? That’s no fun!
I thought about it. She’s lived in Santa Monica for decades. She also loves to read and has a penchant for history. I had an idea. I searched Wikipedia for the history of Santa Monica. I divided the document in three parts and attached them to three emails.
She was thrilled when she found the emails in her in-box the next day. She opened each one and learned where to find the attachment and then how to download and print it. She also oohed and aahed when she saw the historical photos of the Ocean Park Bathhouse and the pier. By the end of our lesson, she not only had mastered downloading and printing but she also had her reading material for the night.
