There were a few of us left at our friends’ Christmas party. Gathered around the table were several teenagers, a few of their parents, and a set of grandparents. The conversation turned to podcasts. My husband spoke of ‘Finding Mastery' and I chimed in with NPR’s ‘How I Built This’ as a favorite.
From the end of the table, the grandma of the group piped up: “Maybe one of the kids can tell me how to do this. How do I get a podcast? Rachel Maddow said there is one on MSNBC called ‘Bagman.’ Do I just go to www.msnbc.com?”
You should know that when we are at any kind of gathering, this is all my husband needs to start boasting about my business. He responded, “Well, it’s your lucky day. You’ve come to the right place. Maybe you don’t know what my wife does.”
I scooted over and helped her out. Turns out she has a flip phone (yes, it’s true), but her husband has an iPhone. I used his phone to show them how to search podcasts. Lo and behold, it wasn’t there but it was on www.MSNBC, just as she suspected. I found it by using Safari on his iPhone and sending it to her email. She can listen to it on her desktop when she gets home.
A few takeaways from this:
She loves her flip phone. Her kids laugh about it. Me? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Leave her alone.
