An Adventure in Your Own Backyard

I’ve had several clients who wanted to learn how to use their GPS systems. And, I have to admit, it’s one of the lessons I enjoy the most. For me, it’s an adventure.

A few days before the lesson, I scope out their neighborhood. On Google Maps, I find businesses nearby. I make sure the businesses have parking lots; learning a new tech tool is stressful enough, no need to have to find street parking.

Several weeks ago, I met a client at the Starbucks parking lot on Pico just east of Westwood Blvd. I waved as she pulled in, she parked, and I got into the passenger seat.

I took out my clipboard (yes, I use a clipboard) with the list of the locations we’d be visiting. She smiled, pleased that I made this plan just for her. I showed her how to enter the first destination, Staples on Bundy and Olympic, less than two miles away. And we were off!

Following the voice navigation, we arrived at Staples. She pulled in the lot and parked. Deep breath in, deep breath out; we had made it to our first stop. With my guidance, she entered the next address: Whole Foods on Barrington and National, again less than two miles away. It was like a scavenger hunt, only the prize was mastering the GPS.

We continued our journey to the Rancho Park Garden Café on Pico and Prosser, a little farther this time, a whopping 3-mile drive. We made a few more stops, and with the assistance of brilliant technology, I helped her find her way.

If you or someone you love needs a little help navigating their routes, I’m happy to help. We’ll start in their own backyard. And, oh, the places we’ll go!
